This position is a permanent Learning Support Teacher at Meadville Area Middle School. Candidates must hold a PA teaching certification in Special Education N-12 or Special Education 7-12.  

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. Holds a valid Pennsylvania Teaching Certificate as set by the state certification authorities for that specific position and meets the requirements for certification that includes being highly qualified as outlined by the Federal NCLB Act.  
  1. Must have an understanding and knowledge of computer technology.                       
  1. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. 

 

REPORTS TO:    Principal/Director of Special Services

 

JOB GOAL:         To help provide a program that will help students learn subject matter and/or skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible men and women.

 

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Provides a basic program of study which meets the needs, interests and abilities of Learning Support students consistent with state education code requirements. 
  1. Works cooperatively with classroom teachers who have Learning Support students in regular classes, interpreting the abilities and disabilities of these students to the appropriate staff, and assisting the students with regular class assignments. 
  1. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students. 
  1. Assesses the accomplishments of students on the regular basis and provides progress reports as required. 
  1. Assists, upon request, in screening and recommending placement of applicants in the Learning Support program. 
  1. Provides guidance to Learning Support students regarding educational, occupational, and personal aspects of their development. 
  1. Assists Learning Support students in making realistic assessments of their abilities and in establishing educational and occupational goals in keeping with these abilities. 
  1. Undertakes continuing professional study in the psychology of the exceptional student in teaching methods related to the field. 
  1. Maintains all relevant student records and sees that pertinent data on students participating in the Learning Support program are regularly entered in the students' appropriate files. 
  1. Assumes the primary role in preparing for and guiding the Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) for each Learning Support student. 
  1. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct; develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure; and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner. 
  1. Plans and supervises assignments for teacher aides and other personnel assigned to the classroom. 
  1. Assists outside agencies in preparing and maintaining appropriate documentation to provide necessary student support. 
  1. Performs other reasonable duties as are assigned by the principal or the Director of Special Services for the well being of the student. 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:       Salary and benefits to be determined in accordance with the negotiated agreement between the Crawford Central Educational Association and the Crawford Central Board of School Directors

 

EVALUATION:       Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of Professional personnel by the Building Principal
