Substitute School Nurse or Registered Nurse Technician 

This a substitute position that is on an on-call basis to fill in for an employee that is off work.  This position does not receive any benefits.  

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Pennsylvania Certification as a School Nurse or Emergency School Nurse Certification.
2. Holds a valid and current state license to practice as a registered nurse in Pennsylvania
3. Current CPR and First Aide certification. 
4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. 

REPORTS TO:    Principal, unless other specific direction is given. 

JOB GOAL:         The school nurse’s primary goal is to strengthen the educational process through the improvement and protection of the health status of children in the schools of the district and to comply with Pennsylvania School Code mandates. 

1. Follows the policies and procedures of the Crawford Central School District under the direction of certified school nurse to implement the school health services program at the assigned school(s). 

2. Provides first aid to sick and/or injured students/staff in accordance with appropriate procedure. 

3. Disbursement of medications as prescribed by a doctor or defined by school nurse. 

4. Performs health screening (vision, hearing, growth, scoliosis and TB) at the direction of the school nurse. 

5. Assists with physicals (mandated, athletics, Special Olympics). 

6. Contacts parent or guardian regarding injured or ill students as appropriate. 

7. Notifies the certified school nurse and principal of any serious illness or injury. 

8. Completes clerical procedures in order to maintain records and documents accurately and up to date as required by the school health program. 

9. Respects the confidentiality of student health/medical information. 

10. Assists with the care, storage, inventory and requisition of equipment and supplies. 

11.  Maintains orderly and attractive health room facilities. 

12. Performs other reasonable duties as are assigned by the School Board or Superintendent for the general well being of the student.
